With only hours to Ignite Boise, we thought it might be helpful to post a list of Dos and Don’ts. This post was inspired by a great one done by Josh Bancroft of Ignite Portland. Hopefully it helps.
DO remember to bring your ticket. Either print it out or display it on the screen of your iPhone/other mobile device. We’ll have very nice volunteers checking tickets at the door – so try to make it easy on them. Ticketholders get in starting at 6:00pm. At 6:30pm, your ticket turns into a pumpkin as we open the doors to General Admission.
DON’T freak out if you don’t have a ticket, and still want to come. We reserved plenty of seats for General Admission. Come down early and get in the General Admission line.
DO Take pictures, tweet, and blog about the event. Remember to use the tags #ib1 or “igniteboise” so we can all find the great stuff you create. [note: #ib(whatever number) = IgniteBoise (whatever number), etc]
DON’T be a jerk, and boo or heckle any of the sponsors. It’s not cool to act that way towards the people who paid for the seat you’re sitting in. Even better, applaud and cheer them. Or go up to them during intermission and say thanks.
DO make sure you’re following @igniteboise on Twitter the night of the event. That will be our main channel for up-to-the-minute updates like how long the lines are and any other important stuff.
DON’T forget to have fun! Socialize, mingle, meet new people, connect people’s faces to their Twitter handles, laugh, and have a good time. Getting to know other smart, interesting people is an important part of the event.
DO be thinking about ideas for the Ignite talk you want to give at the next Ignite Boise. We know you have burning ideas in your head. Let them out and share them with the rest of us!
DON’T forget that this event is 100% volunteer run. It probably won’t go perfectly, but so what? Relax, go with the flow and have fun.
